John Lewis is set to launch a loyalty card over the next few months after piloting a successful trial scheme last year.
The retailer has previously avoided introducing a loyalty card as many customers use the store for one-off purchases.
However, the new “my John Lewis” card will reward customers with free tea and cake, regular prize draws, and exclusive invites to local events.
Consumers will be asked to volunteer data regarding their hobbies and shopping interests and, based on this information, the customers will receive targeted product details and services.
Chris Bates, head of customer marketing at John Lewis, said: "We consciously decided not to develop a scheme based on collecting points, and instead offer more immediate rewards, previews and events so that customers can experience the benefits of membership straight away.
"It will also get better over time, as the more we learn about customers, the more we can personalise the experience we give them."
